RESULTS YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE ICL

The U.S. Armed Forces have been enthusiastic adopters of the ICL because it offers the excellent night vision critical to soldiers in combat. In one large study done by the U.S. military, 98 percent of patients achieved 20/20 vision or better with the ICL and 80 percent could see 20/15. Even though not everyone saw 20/20, 99 percent of patients said they were satisfied with the results. These superb results may overstate the accuracy of the ICL somewhat because many of the patients in the study were not extreme myopes. Nevertheless, the excellent visual results in this study well illustrate the effectiveness of the ICL.

If you aren’t 20/20 after the ICL surgery, you can have a LASIK touch-up to improve your vision further. LASIK touchups are typically done three months after the ICL procedure, to give your eye time to heal fully. If you are in a hurry, a PRK touch-up can be done as soon as a month after ICL surgery, but the recovery from LASIK is so much faster that patients typically wait for LASIK.

If you are forty-two years old or older, you will need reading glasses after the ICL surgery because you will have excellent distance vision but have difficulty reading because of presbyopia. If you are over age forty, we will often do monovision to give you excellent close-up vision. Monovision works well after the ICL surgery, just as it does after PRK or LASIK.
