POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS FROM LIMBAL RELAXING INCISIONS

Limbal relaxing incisions are very safe. The most common side effect of limbal relaxing incisions is either overcorrection or undercorrection of your astigmatism. If your eye is horizontally oval, an overcorrection would mean that it becomes vertically oval after the incisions. You would notice your vision wasn’t yet clear because you still had an astigmatism. Similarly, an undercorrection means that your eye is still oval but less so. That would mean your vision is better but still blurry.

As with any surgery there is a risk of infection, but this is extremely rare. Also, the limbal incision weakens the cornea slightly, so it is possible the cornea could rupture if you had severe trauma to the eye, like getting hit with a racquetball. We recommend that you always wear eye protection in situations in which you could suffer eye trauma, like playing racquetball, whether or not you’ve had surgery.
