FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT RLE

DOES THE RLE PROCEDURE HURT?

No. Using numbing eyedrops and intravenous sedation, we keep you very comfortable.

HAVING SOMEONE PERFORM SURGERY ON MY EYE MAKES ME ANXIOUS. SHOULD I BE NERVOUS?

Being nervous is understandable. But the IV sedation takes away the feeling of anxiety. Afterward, you’ll be amazed at how easily the surgery went.

CAN I SEE THE SURGERY BEING PERFORMED?

Not really. You will see bright lights and kaleidoscopic colors, like a light show, but you can’t see surgical instruments and surgical maneuvers. Because of the sedation, you aren’t aware of much.

WILL I BE ABLE TO FEEL THE LENS IMPLANT IN MY EYE?

No. The lens becomes a natural part of your body.

CAN OTHER PEOPLE SEE THE LENS IMPLANT IN MY EYE?

No. The lens is not visible. However, when the light is just right, others may see a faint reflection off the surface of the lens right in the center of your pupil, almost like a gleam in your eye.

DOES THE LENS NEED TO BE REPLACED EVENTUALLY?

No. The lens is made of extremely durable polymers that have been implanted safely in people for decades. The lens will outlast you.
