Great Vision Without Glasses, in Just Minutes

At the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute in Los Angeles, our standard of care means treating your eyes like we would our own family members. We use the best technology. We don’t give you the choice of something that’s cheaper but not as good. We triple check our surgical measurements. Our experience in doing over 65,000 LASIK procedures over 28 years has provided us with a wealth of data from which we do outcomes analysis to further customize your treatment to get you seeing 20/20 or better.

With an advanced suite of fully integrated LASIK technologies, your experience can be customized from start to finish, making it possible for us to help you realize your best possible vision, potentially even better than what you can achieve with glasses or contact lenses.

What is LASIK Surgery?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) is micro-surgery, performed by a surgeon with a laser, which reshapes the cornea, and thus changes the patient’s vision. Correctly performed, LASIK eye surgery can correct the most common forms of vision impairment—myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. During LASIK eye surgery in Los Angeles, a thin layer of tissue is folded back from the surface of the cornea.

After the laser reshapes the cornea, the tissue is folded back into place, where it bonds quickly. At the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute in Los Angeles, the entire procedure is performed using state-of-the-art surgical lasers, so there are no scalpels, stitches or needles. The time in surgery is 3 to 5 minutes per eye. Healing for most patients is so fast that vision improves within hours of the procedure, and many patients return to work the next day.

Is LASIK Eye Surgery in Los Angeles right for you?

Because your eyes and your vision are as unique to you as your fingerprints and DNA, it's challenging for us to know whether LASIK eye surgery can benefit you without a personal examination. However, many recent medical advances, some pioneered at the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute in Los Angeles, have made it possible to correct problems that couldn't be fixed just a few years ago. Dr. Shamie, and Dr. Hura deliver among the best LASIK eye surgery Los Angeles and Pasadena have to offer.

In general, the conditions we're able to treat include nearsightedness (myopia ), farsightedness (hyperopia ), and astigmatism. We like our patients to be at least 18 years of age, have healthy corneas, and to have had stable vision for at least 1 year.

What to expect during a LASIK consultation

Determining if you’re a candidate for LASIK is a careful, multi-step process. At your consultation, our team will thoroughly evaluate your eye health and educate you on your vision correction options so you can make an informed decision.

The evaluation includes measuring your vision, assessing corneal thickness, dryness, retina, and reviewing your overall medical and ocular history. Advanced diagnostic technology, including corneal mapping and SightMap analysis, is used to create a detailed, personalized “fingerprint” of your vision—far more precise than standard glasses or contact lens prescriptions. These quick, painless scans measure the entire optical pathway to help your surgeon design a truly customized treatment plan.

Our experienced team will guide you through every step of your visit, from diagnostic testing to a tour of our surgical suite and recovery area. After reviewing your results, your surgeon will determine if LASIK is the right option for you. If it’s not, there may be a better alternative, such as PRK, EVO ICL, or RLE, to help you achieve your vision goals.

At the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute in Los Angeles and Pasadena, we’re committed to answering all your questions and helping you feel confident about your care—from what to expect on surgery day to when you’ll start seeing clearly. Our goal is simple: to give you the best vision possible.
