I have been a patient of Dr. Shamie's for 14 years. Initially to monitor the progression of Fuch's dystrophy while she was at Doheny, and eventually to DMEK surgery in both eyes (2020 and 2022) after she'd become a partner at Maloney / Shamie (now MSH). DMEK is a difficult, technically demanding surgical procedure and there are few, if any, as skilled and practiced as Dr. Shamie. My optometrist has several post-DMEK Fuchs patients, he's remarked several times that my grafts are by far the most perfect he's seen. I recently had my R eye cataract removed and see 20/15 in that eye. The L eye is scheduled for early March. My wife had cataract surgery with Dr. Shamie in 2021 with multifocal IOLs and she's been free of glasses ever since. We live ~125 miles from the Westwood office, normally a 3 hour drive in traffic. There are many ophthalmologists much closer than that, but none I would trust our vision to. Along with being a supremely talented surgeon, she is a warm and caring person who has a sincere concern for her patient's ocular health and long-term success. One could not find a better person to care for their all-important vision than Dr. Shamie.

Dr. Shamie is absolutely phenomenal. She performed cornea transplants on both my eyes in 2020 (2 separate surgeries, 6 months apart). She has such a loving and caring nature and she's meticulous about her work. I've had several doctors examine my eyes and they've all commented about the beauty and precision of her work. And my vision improved significantly. For decades, I wore painful rigid gas permeable hard contact lenses that caused constant irritation and anxiety. My vision was very poor and I could not see without the painful lenses. After the surgery, I could see almost perfectly with no lenses or glasses at all. My quality of life improved greatly as I was no longer reliant on lenses to operate my life. Now, 5 years later, my vision is still strong and stable. I am so glad I chose Dr. Shamie and I highly endorse the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute!

The Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute runs a well-oiled machine. I was referred here for my keratoconus and from the second of my virtual consult to the last follow up post my second crosslinking surgery, the entire team has been nothing but professional, caring, and responsive. The front desk team always greeted me with a smile (I felt like I lived in the office for a bit, ha), Holly was amazing in preparing me with all the documents and made sure I understood all the financials, and Emily was exceptional-- she was so patient with all my questions, and was really comforting during both my surgeries. While I didn't see Dr. Shamie much, she had excellent bedside manners. A very special thank you to Dr. Barnes, who always took as much time as I needed at EVERY appointment-- I never felt rushed and felt like I could always ask my questions without being on a time limit. I think that's incredibly rare to find these days, and I am so appreciative on the level of service received from her. It's bittersweet that I won't be back as all my follow ups are now completed, but I am beyond appreciative for the personalized care I received here. I highly recommend their office.

Dr Shamie is the best! She did my cornea transplant as well as my cataract surgery. She is extremely professional but also personable. I trust her and know she highly competent.

I have had a cornea scraping and one cataract surgery so far from Dr. Shamie. Her office is well run with polite helpful staff. Dr. Shamie was good about checking in with me after the procedures. She is friendly, very professional and a straight talker. She is also easily accessible. My husband had a bad experience at UCLA Jules Stein: it was an assembly line and nearly impossible to reach his doctor there. When a complication arose in my eye to be scheduled for cataract surgery, she rightly postponed it until the problem is resolved. The Surgery Specialists facility she uses is very clean, efficient with nice staff. My only suggestion is that standard postoperative care be revised specifically for each patient. My case required slightly different protocol which I didn't learn about for a week.

Every call I made was professional answered. I was treated respectfully when I visited. The intake/front desk staff was always kind. All doctors and technicians show empathy and are competent. I am pleased with the treatment every time I've visited.

My relationship with Dr. Shamie began in 2019 when my local Optometrist referred me to her to have my cataracts removed. I needed laser cataract removal as I have Fuch's Corneal Dystrophy and Dr. Shamie is a renowned cataract, LASIK, and corneal surgeon. The cataracts were removed and the whole experience was exceptional. Dr. Shamie also evaluated my Fuch's and corresponded with my Optometrist to watch the progress of the Fuch's. This year I was referred back to Dr. Shamie and she said it was time for a partial cornea transplant. The transplant was conducted at the Surgery Center and went well. I will have the other cornea transplant later this year. Dr. Shamie and her office staff are very competent. Everything went smoothly and I was treated very well. The surgery center was also an excellent experience and I felt well cared for. Every interaction I have had over the years have been only positive and I would recommend Dr. Shamie.

I had been seeing a leading ophthalmologist in Long Beach, but wanted a second opinion, and was referred to Dr. Shamie. EVERYTHING about the experience with Dr. Shamie and her staff was superlative: professional, caring and expert. Most importantly, after having my cornea polished, cataracts removed and lenses inserted, I no longer need glasses, after 65 years depending on them. And with both the surgeries, and the recovery, there was zero discomfort. It was a breeze. I feel very lucky that I ended up getting new eyesight from Dr. Shamie and her staff.
