Stop scrolling. Stop searching. This is your cataract surgeon. Cataract surgery and IOLs are a world of options and choices. Dr. Shamie was patient as I puzzled through the decision process (despite the fact that she's obviously been through it a thousand times). Not only was the experience flawless, but her office is perfection. So many times a medical adventure is compromised not by the doctor but the staff. Not so here--they were responsive, helpful, professional and kind. That's how I see it, and I see things very well these days.

I cannot recommend Dr. Shamie and her team highly enough for cataract correction and lens replacement surgery. As a younger patient (45 years old), I admittedly was nervous but my experience was seamless, defined by thoughtful and professional care at every stage - from the initial preparation and surgical planning through the attentive aftercare. I now have the ability to see clearly across all distances with vision now better than 20/20; a level of clarity I haven't experienced in decades. I am forever grateful for the skill and compassion Dr. Shamie brought to my case. My name is Theresa. I had my first cataract surgery on March 17 and my second cataract surgery on March 19. I had the most amazing surgeon Dr. Neda Shamie. She was very caring and professional. Everyone at the surgical center also were very kind and concerned. The surgery went very well and after my first visit back at Dr. Shamie`s office, my eye site for reading was 20/20.. Loved the visits and warm visits and feeling comfortable to ask questions. Constant communication via text and phone calls were needed reminders when days are filled with so much to do. When going to do the procedure, the surgery location was great and all personnel were also reassuring. Meeting Dr. Hura for both surgergies was also comforting. Now after all the waiting...... I had surgery on two very dense cataracts performed by Dr. Hura last November and cannot recommend Dr. Hura or the entire office staff more highly. From my initial examination through all final testing, scheduling and payment arrangements everyone I dealt with was kind, supportive, efficient and helpful. While I had been dreading the whole process they could not have made it easier. The surgery itself was painless and very effective returning my eyes to 20/20 vision and allowing me to see things I hadn't seem in years. If you need serious eye care I could not recommend a better place to go.

I midway through the process having had both of my corneas done by Dr. Shamie. That went very well and I'm very pleased with the office and with Dr. Shamie. Now I go onto Dr. Hura For the cataracts. Looking forward to that everything has been great so far. It's now a year later and I've had the light adjusting lenses installed by Dr. Hura. This is a transformational experience in my life. I went from 60 years of wearing glasses to no need for glasses and I had pretty bum eyesight. I've had an amazing experience and I can only recommend both Dr. Shamie and Dr. Hura with the highest degree of thanks and gratitude for what they've done for my eyes.

Dr, Shamie compare to the competition is way above par, for one thing immediately when you meet her, their is a warmth, a readiness to connect that is showing in her eyes. You feel already in good hands... That has been. A very determinant reason in choosing this doctor. Dr Shamie and all the staff are amazing. From initial consultation to surgery and post-op visits all have been good. My vision is so clear after cataract surgery and upgraded lenses, can't thank them enough and it's only been 3 weeks.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shamie's for 14 years. Initially to monitor the progression of Fuch's dystrophy while she was at Doheny, and eventually to DMEK surgery in both eyes (2020 and 2022) after she'd become a partner at Maloney / Shamie (now MSH). DMEK is a difficult, technically demanding surgical procedure and there are few, if any, as skilled and practiced as Dr. Shamie. My optometrist has several post-DMEK Fuchs patients, he's remarked several times that my grafts are by far the most perfect he's seen. I recently had my R eye cataract removed and see 20/15 in that eye. The L eye is scheduled for early March. My wife had cataract surgery with Dr. Shamie in 2021 with multifocal IOLs and she's been free of glasses ever since. We live ~125 miles from the Westwood office, normally a 3 hour drive in traffic. There are many ophthalmologists much closer than that, but none I would trust our vision to. Along with being a supremely talented surgeon, she is a warm and caring person who has a sincere concern for her patient's ocular health and long-term success. One could not find a better person to care for their all-important vision than Dr. Shamie.

Dr. Shamie and the excellent team behind her may not be magicians but it sure seems like it. One day your eyesight is off and the next day ( we'll maybe next couple of weeks) it's brilliant! Had the best Optometrist, Dr. Woo, who ushered through the adjustments with skill and great care. Can't give them higher marks than this.

It was really well prepared. Lots of important eye related measures were taken. Dr Shamie ultimately made the decision of which lens would be used and that was that. There was a lot of paperwork to read and understand but the nerves I had were not needed at all, it went very smoothly. From my first office visit for evaluation to the completion of my cataract surgery, every person associated with Maloney-Shamie-Hura was very understanding, helpful, knowledgeable, and welcoming. Dr. Hura, who did my surgery, was excellent — I had no discomfort and I am so pleased to be able to see so much better now.

Dr. Shamie and her staff were fantastic. From the first appt in January, 2026, which was very complete in 2.5 hrs. My surgery was 2 weeks later and it was GREAT! They took me in the laser room and removed my astigmatism and then in the surgery they put in a tauric lense. The result the next day, I could read the smallest line on the eye chart! I no longer need glasses. I am thrilled

Over-perfromance! This is a year in after cataract surgery by Dr Shamie on both eyes in early February 2024 when I was 78 years old. Within 15 days of surgery my vision had improved in brightness, focus, and precision. I signed up for laser surgery to enable me to focus on medium range and distance, saying I didn't mind wearing glasses to read. However, I now do not use glasses to read most of the time. I can even, in good light, see most of the smallest type on my iPhone. That doesn't mean my distance vision suffered either. I am a daily birder and I can see birds in the distance better than ever, and details on birds 15-50 feet away. No wonder Dr. Shamie is always smiling. She gets to make a big positive difference in the life of her patients, day after day. She does say my case is exceptional, but I say she delivered more than I signed up for.

My experience was excellent. Dr. Shamie exceeded my expectations and my vision is all that she said it would be. Also my interaction with everyone at the office was exceptional.

I went to this office because I had a bad case of dry eye and none of the three ophthalmologists I had seen for my blurry vision had come up with a solution. They just told me to use eye drops, which didn't help. A good friend recommended Dr. Maloney, and out of desperation I went. At the very first visit they told what was causing the dry eye, and they had a cure for it. I had been trying to find a solution for three years! It was not rocket science, so I don't know why they are the only doctors who were able to diagnose it. I'm so grateful to them for this. The medication for the condition is very expensive, but they connected me with a foundation that provides money for certain medications and l didn't have to pay anything for it. After that I felt l could trust them, so I moved forward with the second cataract surgery with them. My first cataract surgery had not ended well and I was so afraid to move on with the second eye, so I had put it off for over a year. I am happy to report that this surgery has had a very good result and this time I can see much better. I can even read street signs now! Thank you to all the doctors and technicians I saw at this practice.

I opted for the lower cost manual (not laser) cataract surgery. But the quality of the experience was top shelf, from Dr. Shamie's surgical skills to the front office and follow ups with other medical personnel at the office. Everyone is good at their job and they put you at ease. I highly recommend.

I would like to say that my experience at this amazing establishment begin with their front desk! I can tell you that they are so professional and kind at the same time. They greet you with a smile and they continue to work for you in every way they can. Then I would like to tell you about the technicians who took care of my eyes and made all the necessary computations in regards to stigmatisms, cataracts clouds, and everything else you could think of.! From that position, I met with two more doctors to discuss what needs to be done treatment wise and also what I could afford to have done that would make sense. At this point, I met the incredible DOCTOR HURA. He is such a winner not just because he is a fantastic surgeon and DOCTOR, but because his bedside manners are so superior to so many other doctors that I have met. He greeted me with a smile he kept that same attitude all the way through the examination and made me feel very comfortable that what was about to happen Would be the best for my eyes. As I prepared for the next two surgeries each I divided by two weeks of rest I felt more and more comfortable. At that point I met DOCTOR HURA at the surgical center in Beverly Hills the specialty surgical center. They are on Wilshire Boulevard and they are an amazing group of people. I can only tell you that the combination between technicians doctors the surgery center. The recovery area was so amazing that I look forward to not just the first surgery, but my second surgery. These people are so wonderful so fantastic and most of all so human about what they do, I will tell you that if you have any eye problem and I don't care where you live please go see them. Take the time to meet with him. Remember, this is your eyes. Its your life and it's something that counts so very much. These people, these doctors, these technicians, the front desk are the best in the business and I will tell you I will recommend them in any way I can Please, if you're thinking about having any surgery done the surgical center of Maloney and HURA are the absolute best. My DOCTOR was DOCTOR HURA and I will recommend him to everyone that I can! I have needed vision correction since grade school and am a lifelong mono vision contact lens wearer. When I was informed by my optometrist that I needed to move forward with cataract surgery in both eyes, I was quite nervous about potential surgical problems or a vision result that would have me back in glasses or contacts post-surgery. After careful research, I settled on Dr. Neda Shamie to perform the surgeries. She and her team provided great pre-operative counseling and thoroughly prepared me for the surgery process itself and the post-operative care routine. The surgeries and recovery period both went as expected and were a positive experience. I can say without reservation that I now see better in both eyes than I did with the best correction I could achieve pre-surgery with contacts, and I do not even need to use reading glasses now with books or at the computer. She is a physician who is available to patiently address your concerns, truly cares about you as a person, and aims to provide her patients with the best possible results.

Dr. Shamie was referred to us by our optometrist for a cataract evaluation, and our entire experience from start to finish has been exceptional. When we first called to schedule an appointment, the phone was answered immediately by Courtney, who was extremely helpful and professional. When we arrived at the clinic, we were greeted with a smile by two staff members. Check-in was easy, and we didn't wait long before my husband was called back. My husband mentioned that at least six team members evaluated his eyes before he met Dr. Shamie. She was very down-to-earth, took time to explain everything thoroughly, and provided options along with a booklet about cataracts. After the consultation, we were told that someone would reach out to schedule the surgery. Scheduling was smooth and stress-free thanks to Tanya, the surgical coordinator. My husband had cataract surgery on each eye one week apart, and he cannot praise Dr. Shamie enough for her professionalism, knowledge, and excellent patient care. We were especially impressed that Dr. Shamie personally messaged us the afternoon after surgery with her direct number, reviewing discharge instructions and important warning signs to watch for. This is how healthcare should be; clear communication, compassion, and guidance that helps patients feel confident and informed, especially when facing something as nerve-wracking as surgery. We highly recommend Dr. Shamie. She is truly one of the best in her profession.

Dr. Shamie was referred to us by our optometrists, Dr. Ann and Dr. Kaneko, for my husband's cataract evaluation. Immediately after leaving the optometry clinic, I contacted Dr. Shamie's office. Courtney answered promptly, scheduled an appointment based on our availability, and sent over all necessary forms. She was friendly, helpful, and patient with my questions. Upon arriving at the clinic, we were greeted by two additional staff members who efficiently handled my husband's information and payment details. After the appointment, my husband shared that several staff members assisted him throughout the process before he met with Dr. Shamie. He was very impressed by the professionalism and efficiency of the team, as well as by Dr. Shamie's expertise. He received a book explaining cataracts and the different lens options. Dr. Shamie explained that whatever lens my husband chose, could not be changed after placement, which helped us make an informed decision. We ultimately selected the premium lens option (over $5k per eye). Since this lens is not covered by insurance, payment is processed one week before surgery. Hence if you are using different card, you need to let them know at the time of appointment (to avoid calling them multiple times) Because we were using different cards, I need to call them multiple times. Brenda was incredibly helpful in coordinating this and resolving all of my questions each time I called. The day after the appointment, we received an email from Tanya, the surgical coordinator, with available surgery dates, clearance forms, detailed instructions, and the surgery location. Tanya was prompt, informative, and very accommodating. We were advised that the surgical center would call us the Friday before surgery. Unfortunately, we did not receive that call. After leaving two messages with the surgical center without a response, I contacted Dr. Shamie's office. Brenda once again helped promptly by confirming my husband's surgery time. Tanya followed up the next Monday with an apology and assured us she would personally send the information prior to the second surgery; which she did. My husband's procedure took place at Specialty Surgical Center. We were instructed to arrive at 9:40 AM for a 10:40 AM surgery, though we arrived a bit early. The check-in staff were efficient and clear, reviewing each form and highlighting key details before signature. At 9:20 AM, my husband was called back by a nurse. After about an hour, I was informed the procedure was complete, and he came out shortly after. My husband reported an excellent experience. The staff explained every step, informing my husband about the eye drops before application, which helped him feel comfortable and informed. He also noted how calming Dr. Shamie's voice was throughout the procedure. He was given a pouch with his post-op eye drops and written instructions. Later that afternoon, we received a message from Dr. Shamie's personal number with additional guidance, along with a YouTube link thanking patients and outlining post-op expectations. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the compassionate, professional care provided by Dr. Shamie and her entire team. Their outstanding service, attention to detail, and patient-centered approach truly set this practice apart. We highly recommend Dr. Shamie and her staff.

I waited three weeks after my procedure before writing this review so I could give an honest and thorough opinion. I had laser cataract removal performed by Dr. Shamie, and I am extremely pleased with the results. Overall, I'm doing great—there was no discomfort after the procedure, no dryness, and no signs of secondary cataracts. Dr. Shamie is very knowledgeable and highly skilled. She explained everything clearly, got straight to the point, and patiently listened to what I hoped to achieve with my vision. Although the laser portion of the procedure is not covered by insurance, and you are responsible for that cost, I truly believe it's worth it—these are your eyes, and with today's advanced technology, it's important to give yourself the best care possible. It's been said before, but it bears repeating: 'this is life changing.' My right eye lost sharp focus. Dr Shamie explained everything in detail and then she worked her magic. It came out so well that I had the other eye done a couple of weeks later. It turns out that my natural lenses had slightly yellowed during my 70 years and I wasn't aware of it until I received new lenses. Colors are more vivid, blacks are black and highlights are truly highlights and it's a new visual world. It was quick, painless and I've been recommending this to my colleagues, even if they don't need it! Dr. Shammie has a great 'bedside manner' and I'm so glad she was recommended to me.

I had a cataract surgery for both eyes performed by Dr Shamie. The actual surgery went so smooth that when I woke up and saw Dr Shamie everything had been done. One of the things that impressed me was Pre op meetings I had with Dr Shamie and her staff. To me they were most informative, professional and exhaustive in terms contents I was ever involved in. The follow up examinations were meticulously arranged with my own Optometrist for a day after, a week after, and one month after the operations. I'm now enjoying a vision that is so colorful and literally breathtaking compared to pre surgery time. I would recommend Dr Shamie and her group for anybody that is contemplating cataract surgery.

The were very polite, to the point. Did not dumb down information. Office is clean and professional. At the surgery center Dr. Hura explained the procedure again, making sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. After the procedure, Dr. Hura checked in on me and followed up with the aftercare instruction.

I recently had Light Adjustable Lens surgery. From start to finish- the surgery, the adjustments, and the final lockdown was an amazing experience. Honestly one of the best decisions I have ever made. Every day I enjoy my new eyesight with such clarity. I was anxious going into surgery, but the Surgery Center staff, from the front desk to the nurse care were all professional and made me feel at ease. Dr Shamie was there to explain the process again before going into surgery. The surgery itself was quick, comfortable and completely painless. Within 24 hours of surgery my eyesight was essentially monovision perfect, requiring only minor adjustments. I cannot express enough gratitude to all the staff for their care performing the vision checks, adjustments and final lockdown procedures. A singularly great team at the Vision Institute.

Can I have more stars to post, please?! I would need a basket full of superlatives to accurately describe my experience at the Vision Institute. I was, of course, expecting improved clarity and vision after my cataract surgeries, but the results are truly astounding. I can give the Vision Institute only the highest recommendation to anyone considering this procedure. First of all, I can't stress enough how seamlessly my team at the Vision Institute works together. After my initial consultation with the team, I left the office brimming with confidence that I was receiving the best medical expertise and personal care I could hope for. In particular, Seth (my technician) was so welcoming and put me at ease immediately as he conducted the numerous preliminary tests. His clarity in walking me through the overall procedures and expectations was exceptional. Most important, he patiently listened to and answered all my questions and never made me feel we had to rush through anything. He is the ideal combination of professional and personal. First impressions are everything, and no one could make a better one than Seth. Dr. Woo is a godsend. Providing detailed, yet understandable, explanations of the tests, symptoms to expect post-op, etc. And, all with a 'bedside manner' that most doctors can only aspire to in their practice. So patient with my questions and so knowledgeable with her answers. This has been the pattern with each follow-up visit, as well. Again, the perfect professional/personal combo. I call just prior to my follow-up appointments to be sure that I see Dr. Woo (and Seth). Tanya in Scheduling is so unbelievably responsive to your calls and e-mails -- a true rarity these days. Dr. Shamie asked her to help with an expedited schedule because of an upcoming vacation I had already planned, and we had multiple communications as a result. She managed to pull it off, and I will be eternally grateful. Thanks, Tanya! AND THEN THERE IS DR. SHAMIE!.(And yes, I'm shouting!) I thank my lucky stars every night that I found her. From the moment she walks in, you somehow know that you are in good hands. She exudes expertise and confidence, and you genuinely know that every patients is special to her. The efficiency with which she reviewed my tests and history with Seth and Dr. Woo was yet another example of the seamless teamwork at the Vision Institute. She provided a very clear breakdown of how she would proceed, what I should expect, etc. When we she came into the pre-op room just before the surgery, she was so reassuring and calming, reviewing just exactly what would happen, and left me feeling all the confidence in the world in her. And, I can't emphasize enough how she has both figuratively and quite literally given me 'a new look on life.' I whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Shamie to anyone considering cataract surgery.

20/20 VISION for distance and 20/20 VISION for reading - this is UNBELIEVABLE! I don't even know where to begin. All I knew was that I couldn't see. I was scared because my vision was getting worse. I knew my vision was bad, but I didn't know how bad it was. I finally realized it was time to see an ophthalmologist, and I went to see Dr. Shamie for a consultation. I learned that not only was I extremely nearsighted, but I also had a cataract at just 55 years old. With a prescription of -7, I couldn't even see the big 'E' on the eye chart. Hard to believe, but I didn't wear glasses or contacts. My nighttime driving had become dangerous because of the glare from oncoming headlights. Reading was embarrassing, I had to hold things inches from my face, or I would have to take a picture and then zoom in. Dr. Shamie walked me through all my options and ultimately recommended a multifocal lens so I could remain glasses free, just as I had always been. The day of surgery was surprisingly easy. I was fearful at the thought of getting my cataracts done, because I had previous eye surgery many years ago. I found the office very calming and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Shamie performed cataract surgery in both my eyes with Toric lens (high prescription, mono vision and astigmatism) a week apart 3 weeks ago. She came highly recommended by both my optometrists and retina specialist. Her office conducted a thorough exam during consult, and her surgery coordinating team was very helpful. I don't know if I am capable of expressing the wonderful life changing experience I had with Dr. Shamie and the entire staff at the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Institute, and the Specialty Surgical Center where my cataract surgery was performed. From the time I first arrived upon the referral of the Manhattan Beach Vision Center, thru the surgeries, and post op visits (at Manhattan Beach Vision...), my wife and I were absolutely astounded at the level of talent, professionalism, efficiency and service we received. The published information I received before my visit was extremely helpful and allowed us to prepare the questions we had. Their entire operation and staff should be the model for all businesses, not just a medical office. Upon my arrival, I was fully apprised of my diagnosis (cataracts, and the degree thereof), my options, my and their expectations, possible risks, my pre-op needs and my post-op needs. I was contacted REGULARLY with text reminders of what I needed to do and when. After this visit, my call-in questions were answered immediately or within 1 hour if some research was needed. Amazing. I felt comfortable, confident and assured, that I was getting the best treatment available. I apologize for not mentioning the many staff members by name as it would not be fair to leave one out inadvertently. (Tanya was my mine contact and lifeline in but everyone was absolutely attentive) They were all wonderful and caring. I even had a post op text from Dr. Shamie from her personal line telling me how things went and what to expect! The bottom line is that my astigmatism was corrected, the dull film of the cataracts is gone allowing me to enjoy the vibrance of daily colors I had not seen in years, and my uncorrected vison is better than it was with the contact lenses I was wearing. My only problem is that after wearing glasses or contacts since I was 3, after 70 years, I still feel the need to take my contacts out before I go to sleep!:) I absolutely recommend them without reservation and cannot thank them enough for this new and unprecedented vision I now enjoy.

I cannot express enough how wonderful and talented Dr. Shamie is. Who would have thought that getting a cataract would be a life changing event in a good way. I had cataract surgery done by Dr Shamie. My usual ophthalmology practice did not explain their surgical procedures so I felt uncomfortable scheduling with them. In contrast, Dr Shamie's office provides a booklet and access to multiple videos explaining everything, including lens choices. They run a very efficient practice and obviously value patient time, so I never had to wait for any appointment. The surgical center is also well-run, with very nice staff. I highly recommend this practice! AND - my vision is great!

I've had poor vision always but can't tolerate glasses. I tried contacts to no avail. At my yearly eye checkup my optometrist (Dr Matthew Matsuzaki the best) told me I had cataracts and suggested Dr Maloney and associates. I did a consultation with Dr Hura in Pasadena and 1 month later I have 20/20 vision in both eyes. They do the procedure 1 eye at a time two weeks apart. It Ionly takes about 90 minutes from the time you arrive until the time you leave. No actual pain and recovery to better vision is anlmost overnight. The only downside is that the surgery center is in Beverley Hills but it's totally worth it. The entire staff was professional, very friendly and answered all my questions. Thank you Dr Hura et. Al. You have given me a new lease on life.

I am very happy with the way my cataract surgery went with Dr. Shamie. I got the trifocal lens because I did not want to deal with glasses or contacts anymore. It's not inexpensive, but this is not the time to cheap out if you can manage the cost. After all, you're only going to do this once (okay, twice) in your lifetime, so you might as well make your future as comfortable as possible.

I'm not sure where to start. First I'd like to say that the entire staff is fantastic! I'm an engineer by trade so I did plenty of research before choosing Maloney-Shamie-Hura. I actually went to two other eye institutes before deciding on Dr. Hura. He made me feel comfortable about having cataract surgery. From the time you walk in to the office, every staff member makes you feel welcome. They do multiple test on your eyes prior to making any recommendations. Dr. Hura assured me that after surgery, I'd be happy with the results. And that is an understatement, I'm over the moon happy! When I arrived at the surgical center the morning of my surgery, I was greeted with total professionalism. The nurses walked me back to my bed, explained every single thing that would be taking place prior to surgery. After the nurses, in came the anesthesiologist who thoroughly explained his role in the operating room. Then Dr. Hura came in making sure I was ok and answering any last minute questions. Dr. Hura is extremely personable and speaks with assurance. Not to mention that after the surgery, he gives you his personal cell number should you have questions or concerns once you get home. I had been home about 3 hours, when Dr. Hura text me to check in on how I was feeling. It's been a month now, I've had absolutely no problems with my eyes during this healing process. Having been a patient with past retinal issues (successful vitrectomy surgeries), my onset of cataracts came within 2 years of this procedures. Dr. Shamie performed cataract surgery via laser with multifocal lens replacement. The left eye surgery occurred 3 weeks ago and the right eye cataract operation was yesterday. I deem all steps of this process to have been excellent, including making the appointment, the initial consultation, and each surgery. Aftercare is being performed by my optometrist, Dr. Hyman. Dr. Shamie's clinic operation is 1st rate - patient focused, customer friendly, timely and efficient. Her practice sent me an 84 page booklet on cataracts and their treatment before the 1st appointment. This was the best patient education I have seen - well worth reading. Dr. Shamie offered clear explanations and she CARES. She did not rush the initial consultation. She inspires confidence. Importantly, my vision is drastically improved. Since these are early days, I expect further improvement as I adjust to the new lens implants. I am a retired clinic director from UCLA Health and I am well aware of what is required to have a well organized practice whose 1st priority is the patient. In this regard, I cannot be more impressed by Dr. Shamie, the support staff, and the entire operation.

The procedure went very smoothly and everyone at the surgery center was extremely kind and courteous. My cataract surgery was a complete success. I experienced no pain and can see clearly and without glasses for the first time in many years. Dr. Hura was so kind.

I elected to have mono-vision - so my right (dominant) eye is for distance and my left eye is for close-up. I now have 20/15 vision and no longer need to wear glasses! I have had a cornea scraping and one cataract surgery so far from Dr. Shamie. Her office is well run with polite helpful staff. Dr. Shamie was good about checking in with me after the procedures. She is friendly, very professional and a straight talker. She is also easily accessible. My husband had a bad experience at UCLA Jules Stein: it was an assembly line and nearly impossible to reach his doctor there. When a complication arose in my eye to be scheduled for cataract surgery, she rightly postponed it until the problem is resolved. The Surgery Specialists facility she uses is very clean, efficient with nice staff. My only suggestion is that standard postoperative care be revised specifically for each patient. My case required slightly different protocol which I didn't learn about for a week.

My experience with Dr. Neda Shamie at the Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute was nothing short of excellence. Her professional staff was impressive but not as impressive as she herself is and her dedication to her patience. She is a superlative physician and surgeon as well as the most charming and thoughtful of individuals. Aside from having a complete package detailing everything a prospective patient would want or need to know handed to them upon leaving her office after the first consult and exam, her staff prepares you in detail for the surgical procedure you will undergo and everything you need to do and know in writing. The surgical staff - all women - and all impressive, efficient, thoughtful and helpful, prepared me for the surgery. Unlike many male doctors, she stopped by to say hello and to assure me prior to the anesthesia being administered. They made sure I had someone pick me up after the procedure and gave me written instructions in a packet along with eyedrops I was to use for 4 weeks. Most impressive of all however was that Dr. Shamie sent me a text divulging her cellphone number in case I had a problem and included a link to a video of instructions that I could watch at my leisure - and not lose, since it was on my iPhone. And I could review it when I had a question or issue. Moreover, a few weeks after the surgery she actually sent me a thank you letter! What surgeon ever explains anything on a video for the patient and then sends a thank you letter? In my 80 years, I've never encountered such an exceptional medical professional who is as thoughtful and respectful of her patients as Dr. Shamie. I will soon be scheduling my second cataract surgery with her.

At only 53 years old, I, unfortunately had to have surgery to remove cataracts in each eye. Fortunately, I found Dr Shamie to do my surgery. It went extremely well, and she and her staff were superb. I ended up doing a monovision technique, so I occasionally need reading glasses for small print or in poorly lit areas, but my distance vision is fantastic, and I'm no longer dependent on glasses to do things like drive safely.

Dr. Shamie performed my cataract surgeries with LAL (light adjustable lens). I could drive, use computer monitors and phones without glasses shortly after the lock-ins. Now, 3 months past the final lock-ins - and 2 days after my second post lock-in follow-up at my longtime optometrist office - my visions have further improved (from my first post lock-in follow-up a month ago). With the monovision (as opposed to multifocal), my left eye's target was 20/20 (for distance) and my right eye's was -1.50 (for computer monitors). My visual acuity hits those marks. Unlike the online forums or subs re cataract surgeries, Yelp reviews do not detail individual clinical outcomes. I would like to reinforce the following: 1) There was no pressure upselling the LAL; 2) Dr. Shamie and her team were knowledgeable and thorough in addressing every question/concern throughout the process AND keeping my optometrist informed; 3) Dr. Shamie and her team were understanding and flexible when I changed my mind about the targets; 4) There was no pressure to rush the lock-ins. Dr. Shamie is a first rate surgeon. The team from their front desk, surgical coordinators, billing to optometrists and technicians is super organized and competent. I highly recommend them.

I had cataract surgery with Dr. Shamie and I could not be more pleased with the results. The choice of lens turned out to be better than I imagined. I can read my phone, computer, TV and further without glasses. I occasionally use +2 'cheaters' if print is very small or in dim light. For all practical purposes, I no longer need to wear glasses every day. The operation was quick, painless and gave me instant results.

I had the cataracts in both of my eyes replaced by Dr. Shamie and she was an absolute delight. She was very thorough and attentive to my needs and concerns and answered all of my questions. On the day of the surgery she checked in before and after the surgery and the day after the surgery. The staff at the surgery center were all very friendly and professional. They too answered any questions and took very good care of me before and after the surgery, both days. The surgery center even called later in the day to check in on me. I felt that the entire experience made me feel so comfortable and at ease I had no qualms about going back the next week to do the second eye. In fact, I couldn't wait!

I had been seeing a leading ophthalmologist in Long Beach, but wanted a second opinion, and was referred to Dr. Shamie. First class, state of the art. I am so impressed with the entire practice and especially Dr Shamie. She recommended a new, light adjustable lens for my cataract surgery, since I had lasix in the past. The staff is friendly, expert and attentive. Dr Shamie is extremely knowledgeable and went out of her way to make me comfortable with my treatment. The cost was comparable to other surgeons. Even though it was a bit farther for me, the drive was worth it. Don't compromise with your eyes, go to the best.

I strongly recommend Dr. Hura for cataract surgery. I have macular degeneration in both eyes and my cataracts were making my vision so bad I feared I was going blind. Dr. Hura recently performed cataract surgeries on both my eyes, and the surgeries were so successful that after wearing glasses and contact lenses for 70 years, I no longer require any correction at all for distance. I still require reading glasses, but that is only because the lens options available to me were limited by my macular degeneration. I am thrilled with the results of my surgeries and I will recommend Dr. Hura any chance I get.

Dr. Hura and the staff at Malone-Shamir Vision Institute were professional and caring. My mom required special care and attention because she is 89 and has dementia. Dr. Hura performed cataract surgery on both eyes and repaired my mom's damaged eyes. She walked gingerly because she couldn't see and had trouble seeing food on her plate. Within a week my mom could see much better and her eyes looked clearer and healthier. The staff also were incredibly warm and helpful. I highly recommend to anyone who needs cataract surgery!

Very professional yet very personal attention. I never felt rushed and my questions were answered. The staff was friendly. Very friendly and caring

At age 67, my cataracts were so severe and brittle that I could no longer procrastinate and postpone surgery. After undergoing oncology treatment for a rare blood cancer, the side effects of high doses of prednisone had caused extreme clouding in both eyes and driving and reading was becoming more difficult. I had been terribly near sighted since childhood and had worn glasses since third grade and contacts since the age of 16. My cataracts were so severe that I could only see the big E on the eye chart without my contacts. And even then it was blurry. I had been delaying having surgery because I didn't want to have to choose between wearing reading glasses or alternatively, distance glasses, after cataract surgery. I wanted perfect vision and my local doctors offered no such alternative. My local optometrist, however, referred me Dr. Neda Shamie for evaluation for the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) procedure. It was touted as a way to achieve the perfect vision I was seeking, allowing me to see close up, mid-range and far away without glasses. I made an appointment to travel to Los Angeles, met with Dr. Shamie, found out that despite my extreme near-sightedness, I was qualified for the LAL procedure. Two words: Life Changing! Dr. Shamie was incredible as my surgeon, as was Dr Kristin Barnes, who provided pre and post op care. The office staff and assistants were personable, helpful, and went out of their way to work around my busy schedule. Although the LAL procedure requires about a month's worth of follow-up visits to tweak the vision in each eye to perfection, and of course the need to wear U/V glasses during that time to protect the eyes, it was well worth it. I can see better than before, with 20/15 distance vision and 20/20 close up vision. I do not need reading glasses to read a book, a menu, or my iPhone; my computer (mid-range) vision is awesome without correction; and I can see perfectly to drive the LA freeways. For the first time in memory, I wake up and I can see! Sometimes I just laugh to myself when I first wake up and start fumbling in a stupor to find my glasses, then I realize, oh yeah, I CAN SEE! I have to pinch myself. Dr. Shamie has the best bedside manner you can ask for. She listened to my concerns, answered all my questions, treated me with respect, she was so kind on the day of surgery making sure to chat and reassure me as we prepared, she called me after the surgery, and handled my subsequent check ups with friendly professionalism. The cataract surgery itself was efficient, painless and I walked out of the surgery center feeling incredible. I had zero complications. Dr. Shamie is so very experienced, confident in her abilities, and will immediately put you at ease. After surgery, Dr. Barnes worked patiently with me over the following weeks to ensure that the post op light adjustments customized my vision, achieving what was ultimately better than perfect vision, and we did not lock down the lens adjustments until I was completely satisfied. I looked forward to seeing her at every visit. If you have been putting off surgery out of fear or concern for having to choose vision or lens options, go see Dr. Shamie. She will honestly evaluate your eye health and recommend the right procedure for you. Her technical skill is the best, she is caring and compassionate, and your life will be changed for the better. Don't be misled into thinking that only rich people or celebrities will be treated well at Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute. I am a working professional and felt right at home. If I could leave more than 5 stars I would. I had cataract surgery, performed by Dr. Shamie, two months ago and could not be happier. The practice was a pleasure to deal with. All my appointments started on time. The staff answered all my questions and spent as much time with me as I needed to get answers and make decisions about the type of lens to receive. They provided a lot of education around eyes and cataracts and vision which was what I needed.
