Meet Dr. Neda Shamie

Dr. Neda Shamie is a refractive, cataract and corneal surgeon and managing partner of the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute in Los Angeles. She previously was the Medical Director of the Doheny Eye Institute in Beverly Hills and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the USC Keck School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Dr. Maloney, Dr. Shamie operated a highly successful ophthalmic practice for 15 years. She was the Medical Director of the Doheny Eye Center in Beverly Hills and is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Recognized as an expert in complex vision correction surgery, Dr. Shamie performs the full spectrum of procedures including advanced lens laser cataract surgery, Wavelight Plus LASIK, PRK, EVO ICL, RLE, DSEK & DMEK, and Collagen Cross-Linking. Dr. Shamie has co-authored over 50 publications on the topics of cataract surgery and corneal transplantation, written 8 chapters for surgical textbooks and has led international lectures, courses, and seminars teaching colleagues about the advances in vision correction surgery.

She was the first surgeon in the Northwest to offer artificial corneal transplantation to patients as well as DMEK surgery. She is an active member of numerous ophthalmic societies, has served on the Cornea Clinical Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, is a member of the Cataract Clinical Committee, was the President of the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology and has been voted by peers to be among America’s Top Doctors.

Dr. Shamie continued her surgical training at UC-Irvine with a Fellowship in Corneal, Anterior Segment & Refractive Surgery and upon completion stayed on faculty as director of the Corneal Service.

I had LASIK done by Dr. Shamie and I cannot stress enough how amazing her, and everyone's care was at Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute. I was an ideal candidate for LASIK and unfortunately during the procedure it became apparent to Dr. Shamie that I had a somewhat rare condition called EBMD. There was no testing anyone could have done to know this in advance, but it meant that my recovery was going to take much longer.

Through it all the team at MSHVI was unbelievably kind and attentive. They were extremely accommodating with extra appointments to address any concerns I had, and despite it all, I still ended up with 20/15 vision in each eye!

I have said this before and I'll say it again — even if I had known about EBMD beforehand, I still would have gone through with the procedure as long as I knew Dr. Shamie and her team were the ones caring for me. This is the only facility in Los Angeles I ever tell people to go to.

I have needed vision correction since grade school and am a lifelong mono vision contact lens wearer. When I was informed by my optometrist that I needed to move forward with cataract surgery in both eyes, I was quite nervous about potential surgical problems or a vision result that would have me back in glasses or contacts post-surgery. After careful research, I settled on Dr. Neda Shamie to perform the surgeries. She and her team provided great pre-operative counseling and thoroughly prepared me for the surgery process itself and the post-operative care routine. The surgeries and recovery period both went as expected and were a positive experience. I can say without reservation that I now see better in both eyes than I did with the best correction I could achieve pre-surgery with contacts, and I do not even need to use reading glasses now with books or at the computer. She is a physician who is available to patiently address your concerns, truly cares about you as a person, and aims to provide her patients with the best possible results.
