PRK

I recently had PRK Surgery performed by Dr. Hura and let me just say my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! The staff was professional, knowledgeable and genuinely caring throughout the process. They took the time to explain every step and answered all of my questions, and made sure I felt comfortable before, during and after the procedure. They even called me at home after my surgery just to check on me and make sure I was recovering well. That personal touch meant a lot and showed how much they truly care about their patients.

I spent nearly two years researching PRK after learning I wasn't a candidate for LASIK due to a zip-lining injury a few years ago. I probably paid around $400 in consultation fees, but none of those places ever felt quite right--until I met Dr. Shamie. The moment I walked into her office, I knew I'd found the right place. I left that consultation with my surgery booked just a few months later. PRK can sound intimidating--removing an entire layer of your cornea before correcting your vision and waiting for it to heal--but I'm currently on day 5 of recovery and already seeing 20/20 since day 1! I haven't needed any pain meds, and the procedure itself was so quick and completely painless. I'm honestly just upset I didn't do this sooner. Dr. Shamie and her entire team are incredible, and I'm so grateful I trusted my gut and chose them. I'll recommend them to anyone who will listen. If you're a PRK candidate and feeling nervous, take this as your sign--do it! You won't regret it.

I had PRK done in both eyes with Dr Hura and I cannot express how wonderful the experience was. He and the team of nurses and technicians were extremely professional, welcoming, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. Every question was answered thoroughly and they made the process seamless. At all points I felt confident in their ability and reassured that my vision would turn out alright. I now have 20/15 vision and it is INCREDIBLE!

I had a great experience with Dr. Hura. I got PRK surgery, as I was not a candidate for LASIK. He was very supportive and kind throughout the whole process. He answered all of my questions and made me feel very safe. My results have been incredible. 10/10, would recommend Dr. Hura and the procedure to anyone interested. I am so grateful for the smooth experience I had and amazing results- I can now wake up and see perfectly!

I was excited to get lasik surgery and I was advised to get a second consultation with Dr. Hura, and I am beyond thankful I did! Not only was the consultation very thorough they performed all the testing needed using their advance technology. Dr. Hura, and his excellent expertise, was able to catch a major issue that would affect my eyes is the future that would not make me a candidate for lasik however, I would be a candidate for PRK. The instant trust I felt! I proceeded with my PRK surgery at the Maloney-Shamie- Hura vision Institute! From start to finish the team was very welcoming, caring, and went over what to expect along the after care, as often as I asked ( I was nervous to forget). I also knew I was in excellent hands of Dr. Hura. The Surgery was fast and painless. I am still into my recovery phase and thankful Dr. Hura made himself available to answer any after care questions I would have. I would strongly recommend Dr. Hura to anyone looking to have corrected eye surgery. I also know Dr. Shamie and Dr. Maloney are amazing to work with as well! Thank you so much Dr. Hura and Team!

Wow! I can finally see! I never thought vision without corrected lenses would be in the future for me. My only regret was not doing this sooner. PRK is definitely a slower recovery but the progression of my vision over the course of a month was amazing. Dr. Hura is a top notch surgeon with an incredibly thoughtful and responsive bedside manner. I appreciated the amount of time the optometry/ophthalmology team spent with me during each consultation. They reevaluated my eyes to make sure I was the ideal candidate for the proper procedure. PRK performed Nov 2024. Follow up appointments can be scheduled at the eye institute and/or with your favorite optometrist. I chose the latter due to commute time and the overall inconvenience of LA traffic. Vision within 3 weeks was not perfect hovering around 40/40 but became more and more refined as time went by. This is one of the drawbacks of PRK since my cornea was healing. Details and sharpness peaked after a month. I have 20/20 vision now! Post op care was self explanatory and Dr. Hura personally answered my call when I had some immediate concerns. I lived as a vampire for about 3 days with non stop tearing but this momentary discomfort is to be expected. Just use the eye drops as prescribed. I have dry eyes but not more than usual when I wore contacts. Overall, would do this procedure again. Was just in awe that I don't have to wake up and initially put on glasses anymore. Traveling and reading music is so much easier now. Thank you, Dr. Hura for the gift of sight!

If you're thinking about it, do it. Getting PRK with Dr. Hura was the best decision ever. The Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute is beautiful and the staff made me feel comfortable right away. At my consultation, Dr. Hura informed me I was not a candidate for LASIK and took the time to explain other options for me. I went with PRK. The procedure was quick and painless. Being able to see the details on the ceiling coming out from under the laser without my contacts was so exciting! I had very minimal pain the first day. Dr. Hura made sure to check in with me, and I felt good knowing I could reach out with any concerns. The next two days were a bit rough pain-wise, and it took about a week for my vision to sharpen up. It continued to get better, and by my one month post op appointment my vision was 20/20. Despite the longer downtime when compared to LASIK, I'm SO glad I did it. I really appreciated the time that Dr. Hura and my optometrist, Dr. Kaneko, put in to my care, from the pre op appointment to the procedure day to the post op appointments. Everyone was very responsive and helpful. Couldn't have had a better experience.

If you're thinking about it go here. It's life changing my friends. I did PRK with Dr. Hura on a Thursday and I kid you not on Sunday afternoon I was pain free. On Monday, I could SEE. Like no cringing at sunlight or phone screens. Like I put on Jurassic Park and could SEE. Goldblum, long necks and subtitles too. That was day 3. I see better than w glasses or contacts now 7 days later. I know some folks may take a long to time recover - I was also really good the first 2 days no screens, eyedrop routine, and I ate carrots took collagen, vitamins and sent myself good vibes. Go to Maloney-Shamie-Hura, they are so wonderful. Every member of the team is lovely. The procedure, payment, and care is clear and upfront (the cost is also amazing for the best work in the state.) Exactly seven days later now, writing this, I can see 20/20. Hallelujah!

Soy una mujer nueva gracias a él, porque me devolvió la visión. Siempre he sido una persona activa, y los lentes me limitaban demasiado. I recently had a PRK procedure with Dr. Shamie and her team. Throughout the entire process they were kind, caring, and made sure I understood each step throughly. The procedure itself couldn't have gone more smoothly, and I felt very cared for and well informed both before and after. My vision has never been better, and I couldn't be more thankful!

The admitting staff was polite and friendly. I only had to wait 5 minutes before being called back. The entire staff asking questions and getting me ready for surgery were very efficientband fast. The anesthesiologist explained everything to me and was very polite. The most amazing part was receiving a personal text from Dr Shamie. She wanted to know how I was feeling and she stated the surgery went well. The best part, I have 20/20 vision in that eye after the surgery. I can hardly wait for them to correct the other eye.

Wonderful institution, would highly recommend going here if you're interested in getting vision correction surgery. The entire staff was incredibly welcoming, it felt like they had already known me for years. Felt completely safe in Dr. Hura's hands.
