The International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (ISRS/AAO) is an international organization of eye-care professionals dedicated to refractive surgery. ISRS/AAO was formed in 2003 when the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Refractive Surgery Interest Group (RSIG) joined forces. ISRS/AAO offers courses, scientific journals, and other educational and professional services to eye doctors. Of interest to consumers are the "Locate an ISRS Doctor" and "Find an Eye MD" search engines located on each Web site. Both list refractive surgeons and board-certified ophthalmologists who specialize in refractive surgery.

The National Eye Institute (NEI) supports more than 80 percent of the vision research conducted in the United States at approximately 250 medical centers, hospitals, universities, and other institutions. In addition, the Institute conducts studies in its own facilities in Bethesda , Maryland , to combat the myriad eye disorders affecting millions of people worldwide.
